Process for Approval of VA Tech Research Affiliation
Office of Vice Provost for Research
The Edward Via Virginia College of Osteopathic Medicine (VCOM) faculty will be considered eligible to submit proposals (Principal Investigator status) for sponsored research through the Virginia Tech Office of Sponsored Programs following approval of a research affiliation between the VCOM faculty member and VA Tech by the Office of the Vice Provost for Research.
VCOM faculty from the Via College wishing a research appointment should contact a department head or Institute director where they wish to have an appointment. Approval is at the discretion of the department chair in consultation with their dean. At a minimum, a resume should be reviewed, but a chair may wish to include other requirements (e.g., a research presentation) that are normal to faculty appointments.
The department head in conjunction with VCOM should submit a P-85 form to the Office of the Vice Provost for Research, attn: Sandra K. Muse, 306 Burruss, MC 0244. The form requires signatures by the department head, Dean, and the Vice Provost for Research at Virginia Tech. The form should be accompanied by the professional vita and any other documentation the department has required for their review. And a proposed research faculty rank must be included (an Adjunct Professor rank is not sufficient). In addition to allowing the VCOM faculty member to have a research faculty rank with VA Tech, a P-85 will provide a means to obtain a university ID, parking permit, access to the library, gym, and a listing in the University directory.
Once approved by the Office of the Vice Provost for Research, the P-85 will be forwarded to Personnel Services and a copy will be provided to the Office of Sponsored Programs, the affiliated department of VA Tech and VCOM. |
